A Detroit-area man has been charged with murder following the deadly shooting of a DoorDash driver in Ferndale last month, authorities said. The suspect, identified as Terrell Simms, 39, faces second-degree murder and multiple weapons charges after allegedly shooting 26-year-old Mamadou Diallo, who was found collapsed outside his vehicle from a gunshot wound to the chest. According to CBS News Detroit, Simms was denied bond, and the shooting appears to have been a result of a road rage incident.

After Diallo picked up an order, his vehicle was involved in an altercation with a GMC truck reportedly driving recklessly on southbound Woodward Avenue, ClickOnDetroit reported. Waiting for Diallo at Eight Mile Road, it's alleged that Simms fired six shots into Diallo's Ford Escape, hitting him once in the torso.

Diallo, who was from Senegal and had moved to Michigan in 2023 to help his family, was working late into the night to pursue the American dream, according to friends. "He came to the U.S. just to provide for his mom, she had a stroke. So, can you imagine someone who came to this country, working to one o'clock in the morning because they believe in the American dream?" one of Diallo's friends stated, according to CBS News Detroit. The fatal incident occurred a day before what would have been his 27th birthday.

Out of the three people originally arrested in connection with the crime on April 8th, two have since been released, while Simms remains in custody. Simms' next court appearance is scheduled for April 17, where he is expected to face his charges. As of now, the investigators have kept details about Simms' criminal history understated, and with two individuals connected to the murder released pending more details, the investigation continues to unfold.
