
The Detroit Jazz Festival, touted as the world's largest free jazz festival, is set to jazz up downtown Detroit from August 29 through September 1. A live-streamed preview event at Wayne State University's Gretchen C. Valade Jazz Center unveiled a lineup that jazz aficionados would gush over, featuring local and international musicians set to grace Detroit stages over Labor Day weekend. Headlining the festival as the Artist-In-Residence is pianist and composer Jason Moran, whose performances are among the eagerly anticipated highlights of the event, as reported by Detroit News.
A partial lineup for the festival was released, boasting names like the Maria Schneider Orchestra, Kenny Barron, and the Branford Marsalis Quartet. According to a Detroit News report, the festival will swiftly bring an "eclectic array of jazz luminaries" to the city. Chris Collins, the President and Artistic Director of the Detroit Jazz Festival, shared his excitement about upholding the festival's tradition of accessibility by offering the music without any barriers to a worldwide audience through the festival's live stream.
In addition to the festivities on stage, the festival has a commitment to community engagement and educational initiatives, with this year's Artist-In-Residence Jason Moran at the forefront.
