Breaking new ground in Detroit's East Side, MyFlight Tours put shovels to earth on their 12,000-square-foot headquarters at Coleman A. Young International Airport. The recent celebration of this event garnered attention from city notables, including Mayor Mike Duggan and aviation enthusiasts. It marked the first new commercial addition to the airport in six decades.
Helicopter tours may be old news, but MyFlight, founded in 2019 by the entrepreneurial pair Sergio and Cassandra Troiani, offers Detroit a fresh lens – literally – from which to view its sprawling landscapes. With hefty backing from local leadership, MyFlight seeks to improve its current operations from its historic City Airport base. “What Sergio and Cassandra have built together here at Coleman Young Airport has become a major part of the airport's ongoing revitalization because they saw the potential here before most people," Mayor Duggan stated, as the City of Detroit news release detailed.
The promise is not just a building, but an "experience," as Sergio Troiani envisions, where guests aren't just limited to sky tours. The space plans to include everything from a bar, small plates, to an outdoor patio and event hosting capabilities, signaling a potential hotspot for both tourists and locals looking for unique ways to celebrate.
The project extends its wings beyond tourism. Driven by the Troianis’ quest to foster community connections, the headquarters promises to blend aviation, dining, and celebrations under one roof, offering a varied palette for those eager to taste the skies and festivities alike. "This project goes far beyond helicopters,” Cassandra Troiani stated in an interview with the City of Detroit. It threads the city's rich heritage with future aspirations, nudging the historic airport towards a fresh narrative.
