
A man has been apprehended after an incident involving the discharge of a firearm in Dorchester, as reported by Boston Police Department. The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Omar Stephenson of Dorchester, now faces multiple firearms charges following the event that occurred yesterday evening. Boston police detail how the confrontation began with a dispute at 9 Capen Place and escalated to gunfire at a second location nearby.
The police were initially called to respond to a fight and were soon notified to also quickly attend to a report of shots fired at 33 Capen Street. According to police, Stephenson had tried to physically engage with two individuals before entering a vehicle, from which he allegedly discharged a firearm. The officers, upon receiving a description of the suspect's vehicle, managed to locate and pull over the suspect on Norfolk Street after he proceeded to turn onto Stanton Street.
With the vehicle stopped, the officers ordered Stephenson to exit and performed a search, recovering a Smith & Wesson Revolver concealed within. The weapon, as the police later determined, contained four live rounds and one spent shell casing. This discovery led to Stephenson's arrest at the scene.
Currently held for arraignment in the Dorchester District Court, Stephenson is set to face charges that include unlawfully carrying and possessing a firearm and ammunition, and for the act of discharging a firearm within close proximity to a building. Specifically, the charges against him, as detailed by the Boston Police Department, are "Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License, Possession of a Firearm Without an FID Card, Possession of Ammunition Without an FID Card, Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Building, and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon".
