Working alongside Deputy Davis since 2018, this German Shepherd/Malinois Mix has been a crucial asset in the fight against illegal narcotics, contributing to the seizure of several hundred pounds of drugs and aiding in over 100 arrests, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
But K9 Blu's contributions didn't stop at sniffing out drugs and suspects. His service extended to assisting not only the local Douglas County team, but also supporting surrounding local, and federal agencies in their own law enforcement efforts. It’s not all work and no play for Blu, though, he’s also been known to enjoy a lighter moment, searching for his "little sister's" (human) stuffed animals, as noted by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
Now stepping into his golden years, Blu is set for a retirement filled with relaxation, affection, and quality time with his family. "We thank you, Blu, for your years of service, loyalty, and bravery. Enjoy every moment of your golden years—you’ve earned it!" as per the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, extending heartfelt gratitude towards their furry friend.
The affinity for officers of the law to develop a strong rapport with their K9 partners is well documented, and Deputy Davis, along with the entire Douglas County Sheriff's office, appears to share a collective sentiment of appreciation and deep respect for K9 Blu's years of dedication. As he settles into a slower pace of life, free from the demands of his formal duties, Blu's legacy within the department will undoubtedly continue to be celebrated by his colleagues, human and canine alike.
