A fatal collision occurred on Interstate 77 in York County, South Carolina, resulting in one death, after a vehicle hit a deer. WCNC reports the incident took place yesterday morning around 10:30 a.m. near SC Highway 161. The South Carolina Highway Patrol explained that a 2020 Nissan SUV initially struck the animal, then veered off the road and crashed into a barrier before colliding with the median wall.
In connection to the incident, traffic was disrupted on one of York County's major thoroughfares, as emergency teams cleared and processed the site of the collision. The Herald Online notes that another unrelated wreck took place on S.C. 5, further congesting the area and adding to the traffic toll as responders attended to both scenes.
The driver of the Nissan SUV, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead following the crash. As revealed by WBTV, the identity of the individual had not been released at the time of their coverage. No other injuries were reported in the aftermath of the accident.
