There's never been a better time to check out what's new at your local library than during National Public Library Week. Kingsport Public Library is extending an open invitation to everyone in the community to discover, or rediscover, the wealth of resources on offer during this special week-long event. As reported by the City of Kingsport news portal, Library Manager Mary Thomas encourages residents to join the celebration "Whether you’re a longtime patron or haven’t visited in a while, now is the perfect time to explore all the library has to offer."
It's a fitting reminder of the role libraries play in our society, going beyond the stacks of books, they're lifelines to technology, education, and community support. In a move to celebrate National Public Library Week, which has been sponsored by the American Library Association since 1958, the Kingsport Public Library, as part of its "Drawn to the Library" theme, is showcasing everything from their traditional books to the latest in 3-D printing technology, according to the City of Kingsport.
According to the detailed events schedule on the City of Kingsport, festivities will kick off with a "Spring Crafternoon", on April 7, inviting people of all ages to create spring-themed crafts. The following day welcomes the younger crowd with a "Pete the Cat" celebration, including a variety of crafts and activities tailored for preschool and elementary-aged children.
The week continues with diverse events like "Tiny Food Sculpting" for the middle school set, and a practical "Job Skills Workshop" to assist job seekers. The organized activities highlight the diverse appeal of the library, no matter if you're embarking on a career, growing a family or navigating retirement, as Mary Thomas puts it, "Whatever draws you in, the library has something for everyone." The plethora of happenings doesn't stop there; children ages 3 to 6 can join in on April 12 for "Craft with Me", a session focusing on spring-themed creations, as stated by the City of Kingsport.
The library offers programs like vocational workshops and polymer clay sculpting to serve different interests in the Kingsport community. For more details on these events, visit the Kingsport Public Library's website.
