Earlier today, crews were called to a house fire in the southwest of Charlotte. The incident occurred on Slanton Road, near Nations Ford Road, shortly before 4 a.m. Images from the scene showed smoke billowing from the home, which sustained significant roof damage, while fire engines surrounded the structure, according to WSOC-TV.
The blaze was efficiently tackled by firefighters, with WCNC reporting that the Charlotte Fire Investigation Task Force has begun to methodically investigate the cause of the fire. The quick response by emergency personnel helped to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring properties and the surrounding community.
Damages to the home and its contents are estimated at $192,000, as QC News revealed, citing an investigation that deemed the fire accidental. Two Charlotte residents have been displaced due to the incident.
In light of this event, Charlotte Fire officials are urging the public to maintain vigilance when it comes to fire safety, with particular attention to cooking. "Never leave cooking food unattended," and "stay in the kitchen when frying, grilling, or broiling," were among the tips shared, aimed to mitigate the risks of kitchen fires, noted for being the "leading source of home fires." Officials also recommended keeping flammable items such as oven mitts, towels, or wooden utensils away from the stovetop and to keep the oven door closed if a fire starts inside it, as per advice shared by Charlotte Fire according to QC News.
