Early morning gunfire at Broadmeadows Apartment Complex in Covington, TN, led to multiple arrests. The incident occurred on April 12, and while no one was injured, a vehicle did sustain damage from the shots fired, as detailed by the Covington Police Department in a recent Facebook post.
The scene, attended by officers from both the local police and the Tipton County Sheriff's Office, unfolded at around 4:00 a.m. A large group of individuals was found near the vehicle in question, leading to several detentions and interviews. A key piece of evidence emerged when detectives used license plate readers, and surveillance footage from the apartment complex. The footage pinned a black Nissan Altima and its driver's involvement in the altercation that led up to the shooting.
In connection with the events, two men, 25-year-old David Jones, Jr., and 30-year-old James Pearson, were arrested as they attempted to exit the scene. Officers discovered 36.1 grams of marijuana in their Chevrolet Cruze, resulting in charges of Possession of Schedule VI with Intent to Deliver, as the social media post revealed. Another man, 32-year-old Lawrence Brent, was taken into custody for public intoxication after officers found him unsteady on his feet in the vicinity of the incident.
The driver of the Altima, identified as 29-year-old Eric McGee Jr., from Covington, admitted his involvement during a subsequent interview. McGee indicated he had hidden to evade law enforcement, then disposed of the firearm in the Hatchie River. Charged with Reckless Endangerment, Vandalism, and Tampering with Evidence, McGee is out on a $50,000 bond. "I am thankful for the partnership with the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office and for their collaboration during this investigation," expressed Chief Donna Turner in the post. Jones, Pearson, and Brent, similarly, are out on bond awaiting their court appearances.
The Covington Police Department's press release also stressed the importance of community cooperation in the case. Residents reportedly identified the individuals causing the disturbance, aiding in the investigation. As the inquiry continues, the department encourages anyone with further information to come forward. The Covington PD also announced plans to ramp up patrols as the summer season approaches, aiming to maintain safety across high-traffic areas. McGee, alongside Jones, Jr., Pearson, and Brent, will face the Tipton County General Sessions Court to answer for the alleged crimes.
