Edmond Public Schools in Oklahoma is set to welcome Josh Delich as its new leader, following the announcement of the district's search conclusion. Delich, hailing from a strong background in education administration, with recent roles in Minnesota's two largest public-school districts, will step into the role as the 23rd superintendent. This comes after the current superintendent, Angela Grunewald, announced her retirement earlier this year.
Delich's selection is the culmination of a nationwide search, with his experience spanning 21 years in education. According to KFOR, his most recent positions included associate superintendent of Anoka-Hennepin Public Schools and assistant superintendent at St. Paul Public Schools. It is expected that Delich will bring his insights from these districts, servicing well over 30,000 students each, to Edmond, where he will oversee approximately 26,000 students.
Grunewald, who was the district's first female superintendent, served since June 2021 and will be stepping down at the end of the current school year. Delich will officially begin his tenure at Edmond Public Schools on July 1. In response to his selection, Delich expressed his gratitude and acknowledged the district's existing achievements. "I am beyond blessed and humbled to be the superintendent of Edmond Public Schools," Delich said in a statement obtained by KOCO. "If you spend any time in this district, you quickly learn as I have the amount of excellence that is going through this system both from the classroom level all the way up into our school board."
The role of superintendent is a key to navigating the challenges of education, particularly in a district experiencing growth like Edmond. The board's decision, as noted by The Oklahoman, was made early this morning, marking a significant shift for the Edmond Public Schools as they embrace new leadership for the upcoming challenges and opportunities.
