Tomorrow marks a ceremony of commitment and community, as El Paso County comes together to witness the latest cohort of detention officers stepping into service. The El Paso County Sheriff's Office has announced the graduation of BDO Class 25-02, affectionately known as the “Ruff Ryders,” from the Basic Detention Officer Academy, and the event is open for all who wish to show their support. According to El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte, on a social media post, celebrations are scheduled for April 17 at 10 A.M. at the Pebble Hills High School Auditorium.
Not just a ceremony but a public commitment, the graduation event will also feature Judge Alyssa Garcia Perez of the 210th Judicial District as the keynote speaker, a notable presence representing the gravity and dignity of the justice system these officers are preparing to uphold. The Sheriff's invitation echoes a pride in these recruits, as they stand on the threshold of their duty, ready to embody the responsibilities that their badges imply, inviting the public to bear witness to the culmination of rigorous training and the beginning of real-world application for the “Ruff Ryders”.
In a time where law enforcement agencies face public scrutiny and calls for reform, such graduations become beacons, shining a reminder of the individuals behind the uniforms who strive for both security and service within their communities, the Pebble Hills High School Auditorium will be more than a venue, it will serve as a space for community solidarity, recognizing the dual call to maintain order and uphold the public trust. Sheriff Ugarte's post reflects an enthusiasm to celebrate the achievements and the future contributions of these newly minted officers.
