El Paso police have arrested in a hit-and-run case that left a scooter driver with life-threatening injuries earlier this month. The incident occurred on April 12, when a two-vehicle crash occurred on Piedras Street, near the intersection of Tularosa. According to El Paso Police Department, the victim, identified as Ponce, was riding southbound when struck by a vehicle driven by Rivera, who was reportedly supposed to turn left but instead continued northbound, colliding with Ponce's scooter.
Following the crash, Rivera fled the scene, igniting a search that would last over a week. It wasn't until April 21 that authorities arrested the suspect, aided by public tips. The Special Traffic Investigations unit, tasked with this case, has not yet recovered the black 2014 Chevrolet Malibu involved in the accident. In a statement released by the police, with life-threatening injuries, Ponce was rushed to a local hospital. The condition of Ponce has been a point of concern for the local community, who have been following the case closely.
The public still plays a crucial role as police continue their search for the aforementioned vehicle. Anyone with information is urged to come forward and contact the El Paso Police Department at their non-emergency number, 915-832-4400.
