An Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University student, age 19, was struck by a Daytona Beach police patrol car while skateboarding across an intersection this week, leaving him with injuries that were not life-threatening. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, as reported by WESH, the incident took place at the intersection of Clyde Morris Boulevard and Richard Petty Boulevard. The patrol car was traveling southbound with a green light when the student entered the crosswalk from the northwest corner and was hit.
FOX 35 Orlando further clarified that the student was heading eastbound when the collision occurred, as he failed to yield the right-of-way to the oncoming patrol vehicle, which led to the impact. The student was swiftly transported to Halifax Medical Center for treatment. In contrast, the officer driving the patrol car did not require medical attention and was not injured in the collision.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, with further details expected to be released as the Florida Highway Patrol continues to assess the circumstances of the accident.
