Boulder County, Colorado, residents have a unique opportunity to exchange ideas with their local government representatives while enjoying a bit of nature. The Boulder County Commissioners are hosting a series of one-hour hikes intended to provide a relaxed setting for community members to engage in conversations about county affairs. The walks will take place at different Parks & Open Space properties in May and June, as reported by Boulder County.
Interested residents need to register for a spot since each hike is limited to 30 participants. Among the first of these sessions, Commissioner Marta Loachamin welcomes residents on Friday, May 2, from 9 – 10 a.m. at Pella Crossing. To cater to a linguistically diverse population, a bilingual park ranger will also be present to facilitate conversations with Spanish-speaking participants.
The subsequent hikes include Commissioner Claire Levy's walk on Friday, May 16, at Walden Ponds Wildlife Habitat and Commissioner Ashley Stolzmann's hike on Friday, June 6, at Stearns Lake. As per the guidelines outlined on the Boulder County website, attendees should prepare by knowing and following the rules of responsible recreation, which include packing out one's trash and respecting others' experiences on public lands.
The initiative not only brings officials and residents closer together but also emphasizes the importance of accessibility to such events. Accordingly, Boulder County has taken steps to ensure that everyone can participate.
