Residents of Milwaukee's 13th District, it's time to roll up your sleeves and partake in some spring cleaning, as Alderman Scott Spiker has announced the return of Project Clean and Green. Starting Monday, April 21, locals can get rid of bulky items cluttering their homes free of charge. According to a news release from the City of Milwaukee district's website, simply place your items for collection at your regular garbage pickup spot by 7 a.m. on your scheduled trash day, and the city's Department of Public Works will handle the rest from April 21-25.

The initiative, which Alderman Spiker says is "immensely popular," allows residents to dispose of up to six cubic yards of furniture, mattresses, and various household items alongside paper bagged garden waste. In a reminder notice shared by the City of Milwaukee, Spiker urges community members not to miss this chance, stating "This is a great opportunity to do some spring cleaning. Putting your bulky items out for the Department of Public Works to collect is a great way to reduce your clutter, and best of all, it’s free!" Be prepared for the possibility of a next-business-day pickup, as all items might not disappear on garbage day itself.

Those looking to partake should take note of what's excluded from the cleanup bonanza. The project will not pick up appliances, tires, electronics such as televisions, computers, printers, or tablets, nor will it touch hazardous waste including paint, motor oil, and construction debris. For disposing these types of materials, the city points residents to the Department of Public Works Drop Off Centers. This advice ensures both safety and environmental responsibility while managing waste that's not suitable for regular trash or recycling programs.
