In a recent development concerning the Frisco track meet stabbing case, representatives for the family of Karmelo Anthony, the 17-year-old accused of murder, have confirmed that, due to escalating threats against them, a decision was made to relocate Anthony to an undisclosed location for his protection. The Next Generation Action Network (NGAN), which is supporting the family, reported this safety measure following approval from the courts, as threats of "alarming increase in death threats, continued harassment, and physical intimidation" were directed at the family's home, FOX 4 News reported.
The nature of the harassment includes unwelcome visitors at the family's residence, loitering, false food deliveries, and disturbing mailings, such as the obituary of Austin Metcalf, the victim in the stabbing. Dominique Alexander of NGAN expressed to FOX 4 News, "No family should have to live under siege simply because they are demanding their constitutional rights." NGAN's internal security team is collaborating with local law enforcement to address the situation.
Additionally, the relocation of Anthony was partly influenced by a recent rally that took place in Frisco, where flyers with messages such as "Protect White Americans" and "Justice for Austin Metcalf" were circulated. The demonstration was reported to be organized by Jake Lang, a figure previously charged in the January 6 Capitol riot. According to FOX 4 News, two arrests were made at the rally due to an altercation involving pepper spray among attendees and counter-protesters.
Meanwhile, Texas Representative Jared Patterson commented on the event, lamenting that it was led by individuals not from Frisco, and praised the local police force for maintaining order amidst the tension. He told FOX 7 Austin, "They’ve been under an incredible amount of stress in recent weeks, fighting against propaganda and misinformation by those who wish to divide our community along racial lines in the wake of tragedy." Charges have been filed against Jake Lang for trespassing after he broke into Kuykendall Stadium and filmed a video, which he posted on social media, claiming to show the blood of Austin Metcalf on the floor.
In the tragic event that first sparked this series of incidents, Austin Metcalf was fatally stabbed on April 2 at a UIL District 11-5A track meet. Anthony has been charged with murder after police said he stabbed Metcalf in the chest during a fight. According to an arrest report obtained by FOX 7 Austin, Anthony admitted to the act when apprehended and queried about the possibility of self-defense. The case continues to unfold, with both families experiencing targeted harassment, further complicating the already tumultuous situation.
