The Memorial Hermann IRONMAN 70.3 Texas Triathlon will return to Galveston Island on Sunday. The event will begin at 6:45 a.m. and finish around 1:30 p.m. Over 2,000 athletes from around the world will compete in a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike ride, and a 13.1-mile run, according to FOX26 Houston.
The triathlon event will begin with a swim at Moody Gardens, followed by a biking route through city streets, including Stewart Road and FM 3005, and conclude with a run on Moody Gardens property. The race attracts athletes who will navigate coastal waters and island routes. Residents should anticipate road closures and minor delays, particularly on Stewart Road, Cove View Boulevard, and FM 3005, where cones will manage traffic flow and ensure safety during the event, as detailed by FOX26 Houston.
The triathlon event will be open to spectators at the swim start in Palm Beach, along the route, and at the finish line at Moody Gardens. It will also be streamed live through an official app, Outside TV, and the Ironman Pro Series, as mentioned by Houston Chronicle. Road closures on Skymaster Road and part of Jones Drive will occur from 9:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. Last year, a Canadian athlete died during the race, and his widow filed a lawsuit for over $1 million against the race organizers. Safety measures have been increased for this year’s event.
