Residents planning to park at the Parkway/McMahan Parking Garage should brace for some inconveniences starting Monday as the city embarks on a joint repair project that will see limited access for about three weeks, pending the cooperation of the weather. According to an announcement from the City of Gatlinburg, the essential maintenance is structured in two phases to reduce the hassle for the public.
The initial stage will result in the closure of the top two levels for an estimated five to seven working days, during which vehicles will have to find alternative parking options. The city has also warned of a potential complete garage shutdown for one day within the second phase, to allow crews to properly seal the ramps. Despite these measures, officials insist they aim to diminish disruptions and will provide advance notice for any full closures, along with posting clear signage at all garage entrances to keep users updated.
For residents and out-of-towners reliant on the garage, there is some good news. The garage will maintain operations on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, through the duration of the repairs. This decision suggests an effort by the City to balance the project's necessities with the parking needs of weekend visitors and locals alike.
While the City acknowledges the temporary troubles this may impose, it remains committed to minimizing disturbances. "To accommodate residents and visitors, the garage will remain open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, throughout the duration of the project," says the official statement. Details regarding the second phase’s exact date for a full closure will be released as the project progresses.
