Jadon Hardiman, aged 21, has been dealt a heavy sentence—76 years—by the judicial system in Gibson County, Tennessee, after a jury found him guilty on several counts including second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.
An exhaustive trial, spanning three days, culminated in this decision on November 20, 2024, where Hardiman stood accused of carrying out a violent shooting at Humboldt High School in November 2021—a tragic event that took the lives of Justin Pankey and Xavier Clifton and left Dontavious Cross wounded; this grave incident also saw Hardiman committing the act of employing a firearm during a dangerous felony, bringing a weapon onto school property with intent, and aggravated assault, the result reverberated fear throughout the community with students seeking safety in a desperate rush, evidence from the trial showed video of panicked students scattering into the gym, bathrooms, and other shelters, as reported by the Office of the District Attorney General, 28th Judicial District, via a press release.
The sentencing, presided over by the Honorable Clayburn Peeples, mirrors the gravity of Hardiman's actions as outlined by District Attorney Frederick H. Agee and his team, including Assistant District Attorneys Nina Seiler and Scott Kirk, who prosecuted the case; Agee stated in the wake of the sentencing, “Violent crime is our highest priority, and we will continue to focus on those that choose to enact violent crimes in our communities. While we understand the families of Xavier Clifton and Justin Pankey will never see their loved ones again, we hope that with today’s sentencing they can find closure and begin their healing process. We want to thank the Humboldt Police Department and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation for their assistance in bringing Hardiman to justice,” as noted by the press release.
