
Gilbert, Arizona, hosted the 2025 Volunteer MVP Awards during its Town Council meeting. The event honored individuals who have dedicated their time and efforts to serving the community, according to the town's announcement.
Mayor Scott Anderson and members of the Town Council recognized individuals who demonstrated the core values of Gilbert: Driven, Kind, Bold, and Humble, with special recognition for youth volunteers. Eric Sheldahl received the Bold award for his work in establishing a food bank that now serves many, starting with no prior experience but motivated by the belief, "If we can get food to God's people, then we need to be doing it," as stated in the town's announcement.
Rachel Eidelman received the Driven award for her volunteer work with Gilbert Fire & Rescue. The town's announcement highlighted her support during an intense shift, where she assisted a new widow on her mother's funeral day and comforted grieving parents, demonstrating her dedication in both critical and routine situations.
Deb Taggart received the Kind award for her role as a full-time volunteer with the Midwest Food Bank, where she fosters connections and makes individuals feel valued. Dan and Cecilia Voron were recognized with the Humble award for their mentorship and support of those facing addiction, offering both recovery assistance and shared meals.
Kevin Chen received the Youth Volunteer of the Year award for his contributions to various committees and leading donation drives that raised over $3,300 for domestic violence shelters.
The Gilbert Lions Club received the Gilbert Kindness Group Award for their decades of community service, including offering scholarships and operating the Gilbert Youth Soccer Complex snack shack. Their continued involvement and support of Perry High School youth were also acknowledged in the town's announcement.
