
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Andrew Polk to the Texas Farm and Ranch Lands Conservation Council, a move announced on March 31st that places Polk in a position entrusted with guiding the conservation of the state's agricultural lands through February 1, 2029. According to the Office of the Texas Governor Office, Polk, who hails from Lufkin, brings his expertise as a senior vice president and commercial lender at Angelina Savings Bank, and as a partner at Polk Land & Cattle Company, to the council.
His credentials also include active roles in agricultural institutions, notably as vice chair of the Natural Resources Committee within the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, Polk is a Texas A&M University graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Leadership and Development, and he also holds a certificate in Ranch Management from Texas Christian University, his combined experience in both finance and ranch management teeing him up to serve on the council that oversees the Texas Farm and Ranch Lands Conservation Program (TFRLCP). The TFRLCP's mission focuses on ensuring the sustenance of working lands vital for water reserves, wildlife habitats, and agricultural vitality, as reported by the Office of the Texas Governor Office.
The Texas Farm and Ranch Lands Conservation Council to which Polk has been appointed, serves an advisory and support role, helping to administer the TFRLCP and selecting grant recipients who aim to protect these precious resources. The appointment awaits confirmation by the Senate, ensuring the process is kept in check with legislative oversight, as per the Office of the Texas Governor Office.
