In a move that's aiming to bolster the local workforce, Governor Josh Stein has announced the establishment of a new manufacturing plant in Randolph County by Gillespie Precast, a leading producer of custom precast concrete. This development is expected to usher in 39 new jobs, with the company planning to channel a $10 million investment into Asheboro. According to a statement obtained by the North Carolina Office of the Governor's office, North Carolina provides an excellent environment for manufacturing companies such as Gillespie Precast to operate and grow.

Gillespie Precast, a family business with five generations of experience in concrete, chose Asheboro for its expanded presence in the southern U.S. after considering locations in Virginia and North Carolina. Gillespie's Director of Business Development, Frank Sisk, stated to the Governor's office release, "The search led us to Asheboro, and once we walked the property, we knew this was going to be the place we would establish our southern base of operations."

The new facility will focus on producing precast concrete utility vaults, manholes, and other structures for industrial use. N.C. Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley emphasized that companies like Gillespie Precast help create stable jobs. He also noted that North Carolina's infrastructure, workforce, and strong partnerships make it a great place for industry investment and job growth. The average salary for the new positions will be $64,154, higher than Randolph County's average wage of $49,355.

Gillespie Precast NC LLC is receiving a performance-based grant of $120,000 from the One North Carolina Fund, which supports local governments in attracting economic investment and job creation. N.C. Representative Neal Jackson expressed optimism about the company's success in the community.

The development has been the result of collaboration among various stakeholders, including the North Carolina General Assembly, the North Carolina Community College System, the Commerce Department’s Division of Workforce Solutions, Randolph County, and the Randolph County Economic Development Corporation. These efforts aim to strengthen the economy of Asheboro and Randolph County and could serve as a model for regional development in the future.
