Yesterday afternoon brought a chilling adventure for five individuals and a dog, who found themselves in a precarious situation on Tomales Bay. According to a social media post from the Marin County Fire Department, their craft began to take on water, forcing them to part with their camping gear to avoid sinking.
The incident unfolded shortly after 1:30 PM, when the crew found themselves clinging to their vessel in the bay’s frigid waters. The Marin County Fire Department (MCFD) swiftly responded to the 9-1-1 distress call, arriving on the scene with a Rescue Watercraft. They were soon joined by National Park Service (NPS) Rangers aboard their own 29-foot Rescue Boat, with all parties working in concert to avert a potential catastrophe.
All five individuals and their canine companion were ultimately rescued and brought safely to the Miller Park boat launch. Upon returning to solid ground, they were assessed for symptoms of hypothermia before being released, returning to the embrace of ordinary life, spared from what could have been a tragic outcome.
