A Harding University High School teacher has been arrested, accused of sending inappropriate messages to a student, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department announced. Adrian Lewis faces charges in connection with a Sexual Assault Unit (SAU) investigation initiated following a report by a school resource officer of alleged misconduct.
The CMPD details the sequence of events beginning yesterday, when the resource officer alerted the SAU to the allegations. Detectives responded immediately to institut an investigation that would later capture Lewis, as he was pinpointed as the sender of these messages.
Following their investigation, the CMPD took Lewis into custody, booking him into the Law Enforcement Center (LEC). He was subsequently transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. The charges currently laid against Lewis include one count of Indecent Liberties with a Student.
According to the CMPD statement, the department remains committed to investigating, and meticulously working to protect students from predation by authority figures who abuse their positions of trust. The brief statement did not provide details on the content of the messages sent by Lewis or how the allegations came to light.
