Dive into Arlington's latest community project because the Woodland West pool is getting a facelift, and residents can have their say on its new features. In a push to revamp the 1972-built pool into a modern mini aquatics facility, the City is calling on its citizens to help decide which amenities should make the splash. An online survey has been launched, effectively allowing every interested swimmer to rank their favorite features, ranging from various water slides to lounge areas.
But why stop at an online ballot box? The City also hosts an open house on Thursday, April 3, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Dottie Lynn Recreation Center. Parks & Recreation staff will be on hand to disclose design plans for the voter-approved $6 million renovation project. Residents are encouraged to attend and actively put forward their thoughts on the proposed attractions, which impressively include a basketball and volleyball pool setup, rope-crossing fixtures, and even a rock-climbing wall. Funding for these enhancements was secured as part of the 2023 Bond Program.
The survey isn't all checkboxes and drop-down menus; there's space for residents to think outside the pool and suggest any additional features they dream of seeing. So whether it's a high-speed zipline across the water or just more shaded nooks for picnics, your idea could eventually be part of Arlington's latest summertime oasis. "The rebuilt aquatics center is expected to be complete by 2027 and will include a public restroom, new concession stand, air-conditioned office for lifeguards, and a rental space for parties," as per the City of Arlington's official announcement.
