The Hawaii Department of Transportation has announced a full closure of the eastbound lanes of Farrington Highway near Maʻipalaoa Bridge on the evenings of April 27, and April 28, from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. The closure is necessary for repairs to a sinking section of the road. Travelers are advised to plan accordingly, as reported by the Hawaii Department of Transportation.
Eastbound traffic will be rerouted through the westbound lanes to allow crews to address a roadway issue that has persisted since paving in 2022 and 2023. The construction is set to begin immediately, with an additional evening on April 29, reserved to complete the necessary repairs. Motorists are advised to anticipate rough driving conditions as the road surface is excavated and prepared for repaving, according to the Hawaii Department of Transportation.
The Maʻipalaoa Bridge project involves managing two-way traffic on one side of the highway to reduce disruptions. Drivers may experience delays and should stay aware of changing traffic patterns. Additional lane closures could occur after final inspections or further work, with advance notice given. For updates on lane closures, the public can visit the Hawaii Department of Transportation website or sign up for weekly notifications.
