Heads up, New Orleans commuters: Starting Monday, April 21, you'll need to reroute your journey if it includes St. Anthony Avenue and Allen Toussaint Drive. The city's Department of Public Works and RNGD Construction, LLC are shutting down the intersection for a week to tackle milling and overlay work. They expect to wrap up and reopen the roads by April 30, barring any unforeseen hiccups.
The detour will redirect traffic up Leon C. Simon Drive to Elysian Fields Avenue. The city promises that there will be plenty of signs and barricades to guide you, but still, caution is the word of the day. As the pavement gives way for improvement, remember the delays are paving the road to progress—or so they say.
This inconvenience is just one piece of the $34.1M St. Anthony Group A infrastructure project. When it's all said and done, in Fall of 2025, residents are told to expect snazzier drainage, revamped streets, curbs, sidewalks, and new ADA-compliant curb ramps. A whole lot of change is coming, aimed at enhancing the overall quality of life, or at least that's the plan, according to the city's announcement.
Those hunger for more details (or who need to lodge a complaint about the inconvenience) can hit up www.roadwork.nola.gov. The Office of Strategic Engagement & Special Projects is also setting up a text message alert system to keep folks in the loop. To sign up, you can either text ROADWORK to 77295 or snag a profile at ready.nola.gov/alerts and opt-in to the "roadwork" alert list.
