
Wahiawa residents can breathe a sigh of relief today as the Honolulu Fire Department has successfully contained a potentially dangerous brush fire. The fire, which began on March 31st, was reported through a 911 call at approximately 10:27 a.m. HFD responded promptly, dispatching three units and nine personnel to 65-670 Kaukonahua Road, where they encountered the blaze.
Upon arrival at 10:41 a.m., fire officials estimated the area of the fire to be about an acre, quickly calling for additional resources to battle the flames. An official statement from HFD described how crews embarked on an offensive to subdue the fire, which was effectively contained by 12:06 p.m. Their swift action prevented the fire from threatening any nearby structures or utility poles, mitigating what could have been a more severe incident.
No injuries were reported in the incident, and investigation into the cause of the brush fire is underway. The prompt response of the HFD has been praised by local residents, who have historically faced threats from similar fires in the region.
