As Houston recovers from recent rainfall, forecasters expect warmer weather heading into the weekend, with temperatures possibly approaching 90 degrees. The National Weather Service predicts a slight chance of showers today, but skies will begin to clear with a high near 84 degrees and southeast winds gusting up to 20 mph.
Rain chances are expected to decrease as a high-pressure system moves in. Recent rainfall across most of Harris County ranged from one to three inches. Thursday’s morning commute is expected to be dry, though fog may linger through midmorning, especially along Interstate 45, as per Houston Chronicle.
Tonight’s forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies with a low around 72 degrees. Friday will bring partly sunny skies and highs near 85. Evening conditions will remain mostly cloudy with light southeast winds.
Over the weekend, temperatures will continue to rise, with a heat dome likely reducing rain chances. College Station may reach near-record highs, with forecasts nearing 90 degrees on Sunday—just one degree below its 1987 record.
While Houston is not expected to break temperature records, the weekend will likely bring above-average heat for April. Early next week, there is a chance for showers and thunderstorms beginning Tuesday night, with a 40 percent chance by Wednesday. Temperatures are expected to remain in the mid-80s.
