This week, Volusia County's Interstate 4 experienced significant disruptions as a vehicle fire brought eastbound traffic to a standstill near Deltona. According to WFTV, firefighters responded to a truck fire at mile marker 109 in Deltona, necessitating the closure of all eastbound lanes. Commuters were warned of major delays as a result of the blaze.
The Florida Highway Patrol has identified the flaming wreckage as a recreational vehicle towing a pickup. Though the incident triggered the inferno, the circumstances swirled in uncertainty. According to footage obtained by ClickOrlando, the incident occurred in the eastbound lanes and was confined to the outside lane of the highway while emergency teams scrambled to the scene. Further details surrounding the event remain under investigation.
FOX 35Orlando reported that the vehicle fire, which commenced around c. near mile marker 110, forced a shutdown that lasted several hours. The closure led to congestion that stretched nearly to the Seminole County line at Lake Monroe. Responders, joined by thick plumes of smoke caught on traffic cameras, worked for approximately an hour to extinguish the fire and were eventually successful, allowing the reopening of all lanes by 6:20 p.m.
Authorities have not yet confirmed details regarding the occupants or additional vehicles that may have been affected by the fire. While the cause of the fire and potential injuries remain unknown, the swift action of emergency crews mitigated what could have been an extensive impediment to the arterial flow of I-4's daily commuters.
