A tragic accident in the Vermont Square neighborhood of South Los Angeles has claimed the life of an infant and a man believed to be in his 40s, who was driving a stolen vehicle the wrong way when the collision occurred. This devastating incident took place on Monday night, resulting in a harrowing scene at Western Avenue near the intersection with 46th and 47th Streets, according to the KTLA report. The parents of the deceased child are currently in critical condition, as noted in multiple reports, including CBS News Los Angeles.
The family was traveling southbound in a Black Nissan when their vehicle was struck head-on by a white Kia traveling at a high rate of speed going the wrong direction. The collision, which occurred around 11:36 p.m., left not only emotional wreckage but also shattered glass and car parts strewn across the street. The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed that two patients, including an infant and the suspect in his 40s, were pronounced dead at the scene, while two others described as being in their 30s were transported to a local trauma center in at least serious condition.
Details surrounding the cause of the crash are still under investigation. "It is unclear why the driver of the white Kia veered, causing the crash," stated the report from CBS News Los Angeles. Authorities have yet to determine whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
