Last Friday in Jacksonville, law enforcement officials participated in the annual Duval County Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics. The one-mile relay ended at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds, where the "Flame of Hope" will continue its journey through the hands of officers across the state to light the Opening Ceremony of Florida's State Summer Games. After the run, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) hosted a reception to honor the participants.
The gathering of these agencies marked a torch relay that highlighted a shared commitment to a common cause. Various branches of law enforcement and protection, including the Atlantic Beach Police Department, FBI – Jacksonville Bureau, and Naval Criminal Investigative Service – Mayport, participated alongside the JSO, according to the official Sheriff's Office announcement. Additionally, members of Alive Credit Union took part as both donors and runners, joining those who serve and protect.
This annual event brings together criminal justice professionals to raise funds for athletes aiming to compete in the Special Olympics across Florida. Participating agencies contribute by purchasing event merchandise, such as commemorative shirts. This year, $4,500 was raised for Special Olympics Florida.
