The Johnson City Senior Center and the Senior Foundation Inc. recently completed their annual Senior Community Outreach program. Volunteers and city staff gathered at Beeson Hall to pack and deliver essential groceries and household supplies to over 180 seniors in need, as per the Johnson City website.

The program, which included contributions from the Senior Center, Parks and Recreation, and local volunteers, provided packages containing necessities like groceries, paper towels, toilet paper, and laundry detergent. Donna Campbell, program supervisor for Parks and Recreation Senior Services, expressed gratitude for the support and looked forward to expanding the initiative next year.

Over the past 25 years, the outreach program has grown significantly, starting with deliveries to around 50 seniors and now reaching nearly 180, thanks to fundraising efforts and donations. Beneficiaries, such as Susan Bishop, expressed appreciation for the support, noting the importance of community care beyond family. Jo Willems, a volunteer, shared the rewarding experience of delivering the packages and witnessing the impact on seniors.

The Johnson City Senior Center has been accredited by the National Institute of Senior Centers/National Council on Aging since 2000, highlighting its ongoing commitment to senior care. For more information on contributing to future projects, contact the Senior Center at 423-434-6237.
