An accident on Queen Ka‘ahumanu Highway has claimed the life of a 71-year-old Kailua-Kona cyclist. The collision involved a black Trek cycle and a green 2015 Motor Coach Industries tour bus and occurred near the 94.5-mile marker in North Kona, on the morning of April 9.

The cyclist, identified as Franz Albert-Ludwig Weber, was found to have rear-ended the tour bus that was stopped on the highway shoulder. He was promptly taken to the Kona Community Hospital for treatment. Despite attempts to save him, Weber passed away from his injuries just over a week later at Queens Medical Center on Oahu.
