More than 20 employees from the City of Kannapolis have wrapped up a rigorous supervisory training, dubbed S.E.E.K. (Support Engage and Excel in Kannapolis). Designed as a five-week course, it aims to groom workers with supervisory roles, sharpening their skills in various aspects such as leadership, communication, policy, and more, a detail confirmed by City of Kannapolis officials.
The program, crafted by the Kannapolis Human Resources Department, is not your average pencil-pushing exercise. Beyond traditional classrooms, it uses tours and practicals to give participants a hands-on feel for all city departments. In a statement obtained by City of Kannapolis officials, City Manager Mike Legg emphasized the importance of investing in these individuals, "Investing in our current employees to ensure that they are ready to assume responsibilities and be the future leaders of our organization is a healthy succession planning strategy."
Participants engaged with in-house experts and external consultants, diving into complex topics like employment liability and workplace safety. It's not just about knowing the ropes, but also about pulling the right ones. The program also prioritizes effective internal and external communication, a key to smooth operations in any department.
The graduating class is a diverse group, featuring names such as David Hancock, James Jordan, and Megan Keul among others. Staffers like Brenda Lee, Kim Caldwell, and Tyler O’Brien also made the cut, confirming the city's commitment to nurturing a broad spectrum of talent. Legg, in a reflective tone, stated to City of Kannapolis, "We are very fortunate to have so many promising leaders in our City organization." With the latest S.E.E.K. program completion, Kannapolis stands poised with a reinforced cadre of employees, ready to navigate and steer the city's future.
