
On Thursday evening, firefighters from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded to a significant blaze at a vacant commercial building located at 749 S Kohler St in Downtown Los Angeles. The LAFD issued an alert on their website, describing defensive firefighting operations at an outside fire that extended into and now heavily involves a vacant one-story commercial building, the scene of a previous fire. According to the LAFD alert, the incident, designated INC#1754, began at roughly 08:46 PM.
The fire escalated to a greater alarm level, bringing a sizeable response from the LAFD. A second alert, posted later in the evening, indicated that "90 LAFD Firefighters took just 33 minutes in largely defensive operations to extinguish an outside fire that extended into and heavily involved a vacant one story commercial building." The alert reported by the LAFD added that the remaining structure was destroyed in that night's fire, which also potentially damaged a nearby structure. During the operations, one firefighter was injured, sustaining a significant laceration. The same alert confirmed that no other injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Details on the firefighter's condition were provided as well, stating that he has been transported by LAFD ambulance to a nearby clinic for primary wound care of his non-life-threatening injury.
