The County of Maui Department of Environmental Management has announced the full recovery of Lahaina's sewer system following the 2023 wildfire. Last Wednesday, the Sewer Service Status interactive map showed that 62 parcels in the Wahikuli Terrace Subdivision transitioned from red to green, indicating that sewer services have been restored, according to the County of Maui.

In April 2024, 1,822 lots in West Maui were without active sewer service due to damage from the August 2023 wildfire. By October 2024, Mocon Corp. joined the effort, and within a year, 3,526 lots were connected to the sewer system. Mayor Richard Bissen said, "The County of Maui was faced with a daunting task when our sewer infrastructure in Lahaina was severely damaged by the August 2023 wildfire," and commended the Wastewater Reclamation Division, stating, "I want to commend our Wastewater Reclamation Division personnel for their hard work both in the immediate aftermath of the disaster and in the following months that allowed for this critical infrastructure to be restored." Department of Environmental Management Director Shayne Agawa acknowledged the contributions of various partners, stating, "We couldn’t have gotten to this point without the tireless work of so many," as reported by the County of Maui.

TheU.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in partnership with Federal Emergency Management Agency, completed the Fleming Road sewer line project, benefiting both the Kilohana temporary housing site and the surrounding community. Bob Fenton, Regional Administrator for Federal Emergency Management Agency Region 9, stated, "When we build 167 units, it takes a tremendous effort from everyone in the community to make it happen. But with this project, we’ve done more than just build housing — we’re also supporting the neighboring community by providing them access to a new sewer system, helping move them off cesspools permanently." Additionally, 28 properties on Malo Street were connected to the new sewer system. The County will soon provide details on how residents can connect to the sewer line. The project’s progress can be tracked on the Sewer Service Status map. For more information, residents can contact the Wastewater Reclamation Division at (808) 270-7417, as mentioned by the County of Maui.
