The Las Cruces Public Libraries are tuning up to offer beginner ukulele classes for the community, with sessions set to commence on April 17 at Thomas Branigan Memorial Library.

As reported by the City of Las Cruces, strumming starts for adults and teenagers from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. every Thursday for four weeks in the Craft Room, whereas the little ones can pluck their melodies on Fridays from 3 to 3:45 p.m. in the Roadrunner Room, the classes are stretched over the same four weeks but on different days allowing everyone's schedules to be accommodated pre-registration is a must, as provided by Brenda Cummings' email at [email protected].

Devoted ukulele enthusiasts should mark their calendars for Thursdays between April 17 through May 8 for adult and teen classes, and Fridays from April 18 to May 9 for children’s classes, all taking place at the noted 200 E. Picacho Ave. location.

Confirmation of one's intent to strum alongside fellow beginners is necessary, with Brenda Cummings of the library urging interested participants to email her to secure a spot, as high demand is expected and just 10 slots are open before additional aspirants are ushered onto the waiting list for future sessions, and those needing special accommodations are advised to reach out to the library at least 48 hours in advance using their provided contacts.

The initiative is particularly inclusive for children, as the library will provide eight ukuleles for them to use in class while adults are expected to bring their instruments. This distinction is made to ensure that young learners have access to the necessary tools to begin their musical journey without additional barriers.
