The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) has recently bolstered its leadership ranks with the promotion of Alan Conner, a law enforcement officer with a substantial 30-year career, to the rank of Sergeant. The official ceremony took place on Monday in Prescott, with Chief Deputy Jeff Newnum administering the oath of office to the veteran officer. Conner, who joined the YCSO last August, is not unfamiliar with the intricacies and challenges of policing, having honed his skills over two decades as a Special Agent with the Utah Attorney General’s Office and an additional twelve years as an officer and detective with the Salt Lake City Police Department.
Hired as a lateral deputy, Sgt Conner has made his mark in a relatively short time with the YCSO. His significant contributions led to a prestigious acknowledgment last March when he was named Deputy of the Year by the Prescott Elks Lodge, accolades stemming from his pivotal role in halting a large train burglary, as detailed by YCSO's announcement. The offense, which took place last October, is one of an ongoing spate of incidents threatening the safe passage of BNSF railroad shipments between Ash Fork and Kingman.
YCSO's choice to elevate Conner to Sergeant underscores the organization's commitment to recognizing and advancing officers who exhibit exemplary service and leadership capabilities. During the ceremony, surrounded by peers and members of the community, Sgt Conner accepted the new challenge, ready to apply his extensive field experience and investigative acumen to the Northern Area Command within YCSO's jurisdiction.
