Līhu‘e Airport will host an interagency emergency response exercise on April 15 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. According to the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation, Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighters, Kaua‘i Fire Department, and Kaua‘i Police Department will simulate a commercial airliner accident to test their coordinated response capabilities.

The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation has announced an upcoming exercise at Līhu‘e Airport. The event will not affect flight operations or close any areas to the public. The training will take place in the north general aviation ramp area, and bystanders are advised to stay clear of the simulation.

A simulation will take place at the airport involving Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighters, Kaua‘i Fire Department fire trucks, American Medical Response ambulances, Kaua‘i Police Department vehicles, and Allied Universal Security units. The public may see more emergency vehicles and security personnel, and is asked not to interfere. Local volunteers will act as "passengers in distress." The exercise will not affect Kaua‘i’s ability to respond to real emergencies. For more information, contact the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation Public Affairs Office at 808-587-2160.
