A Texas man has been handed a life sentence in federal prison after pleading guilty to the sexual exploitation of a child. Alex Mendoza, 26, of Lubbock, was indicted in May 2024 and entered a guilty plea in August to the charge of enticement of a minor, according to reports from FOX 7 Austin.

The U.S. Attorney's Office revealed that Mendoza first came into contact with the victim and her family at a party in 2020 when the child was just 10 years old. By the following Valentine's Day, Mendoza, then 23, began abusing the child, who was 11 at the time. Documents presented in court stated that after initiating the abuse, Mendoza moved into the family’s home, where he carried on this predatory behavior for a period of more than two years. It is documented that he engaged in sexual acts with the child between 30 to 50 times.

Mendoza's sinister actions came to light after he was discovered messaging the minor in the middle of the night in December 2023, as mentioned by FOX 26 Houston. On being confronted by the child's mother, Mendoza confessed to maintaining an ongoing sexual relationship with her daughter.

In an additional twist, during sentencing, Mendoza agreed to undergo a polygraph test, which he subsequently failed. This led to the unveiling of further heinous acts, as he confessed to also sexually abusing a second child. Law enforcement also discovered 20 videos of child sexual abuse material on Mendoza’s phone, and he admitted to both receiving and circulating such illicit material over the internet. "I have to make a lot of difficult decisions. This is not one of them," U.S. District Judge James Wesley Hendrix stated as he handed down the life sentence, underscoring the severity of the crimes.
