In a troubling turn of events at Maiden Rosenwald Preschool Academy, two preschool teachers have found themselves on the wrong side of the law, facing serious allegations of child abuse. The Maiden Police Department was prompted into action on March 31, following reports of possible abuse directed at 2- and 3-year-old children, as WCNC reported. The implicated teacher was swiftly removed from all contact with the students by the administration once the allegations surfaced.
Further investigation by police led to the discovery of hundreds of hours of classroom video footage, which has since been shared with the families of the children enrolled in the preschool. "Upset – we cried. Shaken…disappointed because we take our kids there and we’re thinking that our kids are being protected," Shamar Wilfong, the parent of a three-year-old child who was in the classroom, told WSOCTV in a wave of emotional response to the traumatic revelations.
As the case unfolded, a second teacher was arrested in connection to the child abuse investigation. According to WBTV, the teacher, identified as Dobbs, faces four counts of misdemeanor child abuse and 15 counts of misdemeanor assault on a child under 12. Dobbs, who was arrested and charged accordingly, remains in jail with bond set at $9,500 as of yesterday.
The Maiden Police Department acknowledges that their investigation is ongoing, indicating a deep-seated commitment to unraveling the full extent of the allegations and ensuring justice is served, for the 16 young souls whose trust and innocence may have been preyed upon.
