Residents and daily commuters along Main Street in Monroe are in for some disruptions this month due to a scheduled sewer system improvement project. The Water Resources Department has announced that a portion of Main Street will face closures for several days to facilitate the upgrades. Specifically, the stretch between Franklin and Windsor Streets will not be accessible from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., from April 15 through April 17, barring any delays, the City of Monroe's website states.
In case Mother Nature doesn't play nice, or other unforeseen wrinkles appear, a backup plan is already in place. The alternative dates for the closures have been penciled in for April 22 through April 24. During the closure period, Main Street will remain open, but only for local traffic, which could mean a little zig-zagging for through traffic trying to get from point A to point B.
The project is, of course, a necessary evil in the quest to keep the city's infrastructure reliable and up-to-date. Apologies have been issued by the City of Monroe for any inconvenience this may cause, promising that the end result will be an improved sewer service. The acknowledgment can be a small salve to those who'll need to reroute their daily grind for a time.
