Residents and visitors of Mancos, Colorado, should brace for the start of a major sidewalk improvement project slated to commence on May 5. According to CDOT, this venture is in collaboration with the Town of Mancos and contractor Morton Electric, aiming to overhaul pedestrian walkways along Grand Avenue and Main Street. The project's scope encompasses the construction of over 1,000 feet of new sidewalk and the installation of 64 ADA-compliant ramps spread across an eight-block radius. As reported by CDOT, the work is expected to wrap up by September.
Transportation Director Julie Constan underscored the importance of this infrastructure update, stating, "This project will enhance safety and accessibility for the community of Mancos, providing improved sidewalks that will facilitate safer travel options for residents and visitors," as per CDOT. In addition to the ramp upgrades, the project will attend to the renovation of driveway ramps and the stormwater drainage system. The intersection of Main Street and Mesa Street will witness a replacement of inlets, as well as enhancements to stormwater pipes and drainage facilities, the CDOT press release details.
Throughout the duration of the construction effort, pedestrians and motorists are advised to prepare for sidewalk closures and detours. Shoulder closures and lane shifts will also be in effect from Monday through Friday between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. The project team is slated to engage directly with property owners to provide advance notice of any disruptions. Signage will be placed strategically to aid pedestrians in navigating through closed areas, and the public is encouraged to heed these instructions for their safety.
