Marietta Power has received national recognition for its safety practices, earning a platinum-level designation from the American Public Power Association (APPA) for 2024. This award highlights the utility's commitment to preventing workplace injuries and promoting a culture of safety. Over 200 utilities competed for the 2024 Safety Awards, with entries evaluated based on their incident-free records and safety programs.
According to the City of Marietta release, Marietta Power’s recognition is significant, as the utility operates in a high-risk industry. "I would like to congratulate our team on earning the Platinum-Level designation for the 2024 APPA Safety Award of Excellence! This recognition highlights our team's dedication to maintaining a safe work environment for our electrical employees," said Ron Mull, General Manager of Marietta Power & Water.
The awards are based on the number of work-related injuries or illnesses and total worker-hours, as defined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Marietta Power was placed in the category for utilities with 99,840 worker-hours annually, reflecting the level of risk and the safety accomplishments of its workforce.
Barry Dillard, Marietta Power Safety and Training Manager, said in the same release, "We are honored to have earned this award at Marietta Power. Safety and training remain our top priorities every day. Our dedicated employees consistently set high standards and foster a culture of safety. We are fully aware of the inherent risks in our industry and will continue to prioritize safety while striving for continuous improvement."
The APPA has been recognizing safety achievements in utilities for over 66 years. This award reflects Marietta Power's ongoing efforts to prioritize safety while managing critical infrastructure.
