Michigan's seasonal travelers can expect the reopening of most of the state’s 85 roadside parks starting yesterday. These parks, located along rural highways, offer picnic areas and basic amenities for travelers needing a break.
According to the CBS News, some parks will remain closed due to ongoing maintenance or weather-related delays in counties such as Alger, Baraga, and Calhoun. Work at these sites includes snow removal, repaving, and restroom installation.
Unlike MDOT’s larger rest areas along major highways, these roadside parks are smaller but still provide important services for travelers on less busy roads. Michigan Department of Transportation noted that not all amenities, such as drinking water, will be available right away. Water services are expected to be restored later in May following health checks.
Michigan Department of Transportation provides an online map on its website where visitors can check the status of each roadside park and plan their stops accordingly.
