A Memphis man is in critical condition after being shot during what police describe as a setup orchestrated through a dating app. The shooting occurred on April 11 around 3:30 a.m. on Dolan Drive, a stone's throw from the famed Graceland, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD).
The victim had arranged to meet a woman he met on the online dating app MOCO after sending her $5 via Cash App, a detail reported by FOX13 Memphis. This woman, posing as a date, drove up in a light-colored Chevy 4-door truck, and upon entering the vehicle, the man was allegedly attacked by an unseen male assailant from the backseat. In a struggle to flee, the man was shot at by both the woman driver and the male suspect who had exited the truck to target his victim on foot.
Memphis Police officers found the man bleeding from both a gunshot wound and a laceration above his left eye, details confirmed by reports from Action News 5. The suspects were able to escape in the Chevy truck and are currently at large, with no arrests made at this time.
Interestingly, before the two assailants fled the scene, the male suspect and the victim engaged in what appeared to be an impromptu fight, a fact noted by Local Memphis. The MPD is asking for any witnesses or individuals who might have information on the incident to come forward as the victim continues to receive treatment at Regional One hospital. The community is left shaken by an event serving as a grim reminder of the potential perils of online encounters.
