Residents along the Mississippi River in Memphis should prepare for ongoing water-related issues as the National Weather Service maintains its flood warning. A recent update from the NWS predicts major flooding, with the warning in effect until tomorrow. People in the affected areas are advised to stay cautious near the riverbanks and follow any road closures or flood-related advisories.
The Flood Statement indicates that the Mississippi River at Memphis is experiencing minor flooding, which is expected to continue. According to the NWS, at 38.0 feet, the fuel terminal just south of the river gauge is flooding. The river reached 37.6 feet on Wednesday night, with levels forecasted to drop below the flood stage by April 24. The river is expected to continue receding, with levels projected to reach 8.2 feet by May 7.
Although the immediate forecast for the region suggests sunny and breezy conditions with temperatures reaching the mid-80s, the weather is expected to change for the weekend and beyond. Looking ahead to next week, cloudy skies and several chances of showers and thunderstorms are predicted. This shifting weather pattern could impact flood conditions, as the already saturated ground may have difficulty absorbing additional rainfall.
