The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is strengthening its partnership with the Food Bank Council of Michigan (FBCM) to expand the Hunters Feeding Michigan program. This initiative allows hunters to donate deer at participating processors, ensuring the meat reaches families in need across the state.
According to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources release, through FBCM’s extensive network, venison donations are distributed to local food agencies. “It’s a privilege to work side by side with the Food Bank Council of Michigan to grow the Hunters Feeding Michigan program and to help channel venison donated by hunters to local food agencies throughout the state,” said Joe Presgrove, DNR specialist.
In 2024, the FBCM distributed 195 million pounds of food through its regional food banks, highlighting the scale of their operation. The FBCM also advocates for policies to support the food insecure and provides resources to strengthen Michigan’s food banks.
Sterling Heights-based DEER CAMP® Coffee Roasting Company & Outfitters has joined the initiative, offering coffee products like Donor Doe medium roast and Traditions dark roast, with proceeds benefiting the program. Julie Majewski, Director of DEER CAMP®, said in the same release, “And through this partnership, your love of coffee can make a real impact! This incredible initiative helps provides venison to those in need, ensuring no one goes hungry while celebrating Michigan’s hunting traditions.”
The DNR and DEER CAMP® Coffee invite potential sponsors and partners to support the cause. Joe Presgrove of the DNR can be contacted at [email protected]. For more information, visit the Hunters Feeding Michigan website.
