Minnetonka homeowners are reaping the rewards of free energy assessments thanks to a joint initiative with the city and the state's grant funding. The Home Energy Squad® is helping residents like Dianne Meier and Reed Wahlberg identify energy inefficiencies within their homes and implement solutions to cut energy bills and increase comfort.
During a standard Home Energy Squad® visit, a pair of experts conducted a thorough examination of Meier and Wahlberg's home. According to an interview with the City of Minnetonka, Meier said, "They went up in the attic, looked at the insulation, the walls, the windows." This inspection revealed significant heat leakage in their living room, equivalent to a "basketball-sized hole". Following the suggestions from the squad, the couple hired a contractor who addressed the uninsulated sub-roof, effectively sealing the breach.
Technicians from the Home Energy Squad® don't just stop at identifying leaks. They actively contribute to the solutions, installing new weather stripping on doors and, in Meier and Wahlberg's situation, a door sweep that eliminated the draft on colder days. Dianne Meier explained, "That took care of the draft we would get on below zero days."
The initiative offers these assessments for free, but only until May 31st. Reed Wahlberg, who also benefited from the program, is advocating for others to take advantage of the offer. He told the City of Minnetonka, "Gosh, why not [do the assessment], it’s so simple," adding, "We didn’t hesitate to do it when it was $50 to complete it and now it’s free. Who wouldn’t want to go through this and save energy?" Indeed, it is a sentiment that echoes throughout the community, as residents scramble to schedule their energy assessments before the upcoming deadline.
